A Man's Guide to Prostate Problems
The prostate is a small, walnut-sized gland located
just under a man's bladder. Shaped like a doughnut,
the gland wraps around the urethra, the tube that carries
urine from the bladder out through the end of the penis.
Not all of the prostate's functions are known.
But one of its most important roles is to add fluid
to semen as the sperm move through the urethra.
This fluid stimulates the sperm's swimming motions.
It also reduces the acid level in the vagina to make
it more receptive to sperm.
A man's prostate gland may not warrant much attention
during his life-until it starts to give him trouble.
