MRI Scan Prep

In most cases there are no special preparations for MRI scans; however, if you have any of the following, please notify your physician and technologist as it may not be safe for you to undergo a scan.
    • Aneurysm clips in brain
    • Cardiac Pacemaker
    • Cochlear ear implants
    • Electronic stimulators
    • Implanted pumps
    • Metal fragments in your eyes
    • Most MRI scans take between 25 and 60 minutes, and you must remain very still for the duration of the scan. This is the most important part of the MRI exam as the slightest movement can cause motion on the images, and they would not be useful to you and your physician.
    • If you believe you cannot lie still for this amount of time, options, including anesthesia, are available.
    • Additionally, if you have requested anesthesia it is important you bring a responsible friend or family member to drive you home.
    • If you have not requested sedation, you may eat, drink and take your medications as usual (with the exception of patients undergoing abdomen exams - see below).
    • Please wear comfortable clothing.  If your clothing contains zippers, snaps, or other metal objects, you will be asked to change into a hospital gown.

    Abdomen
