EMS Staff

CCMH EMS is committed to quality by monitoring the fractile response times (from call to EMS Provider arrival on scene), physician review of all low volume/high risk procedures and events, continual study of chest pain patient recognition and treatment, and staff participation in PHTLS, ACLS, PALS, ABLS - all national certification courses.

Staff includes: 15 full-time employees

  • 16 EMT-Paramedics (> 1800 hour education programs - none available locally)
  • 5 EMT-Intermediates (32-240 hours beyond EMT-Basic, a modular format)
  • 21 EMT- Basic Attendants (160 hour - local class offerings)
  • 1 EMT-Paramedic/RN
  • 1 EMT/RN
  • 1 EMT/Pharmacist
  • 1 RN

Gillette EMS

Paramedics

Gregg Mentzel, NREMT-P (National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic), is the EMS Manager for Campbell County Memorial Hospital. Gregg has been in EMS since 1989 and completed his Paramedic training in 1994. Gregg also works with various hospital and community groups including Hospital Emergency Preparadeness and Campbell County LEPC (local emergency planning committee). In his spare time, the Ironman enjoys running, biking and swimming. Hobbies include gardening, hiking, camping, fishing, and coin collecting.

Sterling has been a resident of Gillette for 42 years. He attended school here and graduated in 1985, after which he started his own DJ business and worked at various jobs including McDonalds and the local radio station Y100, which in now known as the FOX. He started his EMS career in 1996 after taking an EMT-B class at CCMH (with Gregg Mentzel as his instructor). In 1999, Sterling went to Paramedic school in South Dakota. He has worked for CCMH for 15 years as a part-time employee and works full-time at the Caballo Mine for the past five years. Sterling was also on the CCVFD from 1985-2006. In 2001 his son, JR., was born.
Chris has been in emergency services since 1998. He achieved his EMT-B certification in 2003 from Black Hills State University and earned his Paramedic certification in 2007 from Weber State University. He started at CCMH that same year and has since become an American Heart Association BLS Instructor. Chris also works full time as a Shift Captain with the Campbell County Fire Department. Chris enjoys spending time with his family while camping, hiking, and fly fishing.

Burton, NRP, CCP. Burton achieved his Paramedic certification in 2003. Since then he has worked in both the Las Vegas, Nevada and the Austin, Texas EMS systems. Burton joined CCMH in January of 2010. Burton enjoys teaching and is an instructor in ACLS, PALS, and PEPP courses. He spends his free time coaching his children in various activities and enjoys working out.

Kelly is a full time Paramedic for the hospital and an Administrative assistant to the EMS Manager. Kelly has been working for the hospital since 1999 and has been a Paramedic since 2001. Prior to CCMH, Kelly was an EMT-B in Manning, IA. Kelly enjoys running, riding dirt bikes, photography and hunting. She has become a Critical Care Paramedic.
Derek graduated the Paramedic program at St. Anthony's in Colorado.
Gwen, Paramedic/RN, started with CCMH in 2007 and gained her Paramedic certification in 2008. She also works full-time in the Surgery Department. Gwen also has experience working with Campbell County Fire Department. She is an instructor in CPR and is a member of the CISM and HEART Teams. When Gwen is not at work, she enjoys furthering her education and playing with her dogs
Barry, NREMT-P, has been in pre-hospital medicine since 2002 when he achieved his first EMS certification. In 2004, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a Healthcare Specialist/Combat Medic, eventually exiting the Army as a Healthcare NCO in 2008. Shortly after his return home, he was hired by CCMH functioning as an EMT-B. Barry went on to complete his Paramedic Certification, from HealthONE Paramedic Program, in December 2011. Some of Barry's additional duties include being a BLS/CPR instructor, PHTLS Instructor, assisting with new EMT training and is a Safekids Technician. On his personal time Barry enjoys camping, hunting, hobby blacksmithing, knife making, leatherwork and martial arts.
.Alyssa, NRP, achieved certification in 2010 and was hired with CCMH that year. She is also a firefighter with CCFD and graduated from Laramie County Community College in 2012 for her Paramedic training. In her spare time, she enjoys making crafts, swimming, and cosmetology.
Janice, NRP, CCP, completed her Paramedic certification in January 2011 (from Melbourne, Florida) and was hired on at CCMH in March of the same year. Her experience includes ride time in Broward County, Brevard County and Gadsen County Florida. Janice is also an instructor for the American Heart Association and is certified in ACLS, PALS, AMLS, and PHTLS. She completed her Critial Care Paramedic in July of 2013. In her free time, she enjoys her time as a mother, walking, reading, studying and watching movies. Another important part of her life is her two boxers.
Keith, Paramedic
Jason, Paramedic, graduated from the EMS Paramedic Program at Laramie County Community College. Jason took his first EMT class in San Diego in 2002. Upon being transferred to Virginia, he worked as an EMT-B for three years and then got certified as an ALS provider. He moved to Wyoming in 2007 and was hired by CCMH in 2010. Jason is also the EMS webmaster.

Colleen started as an EMT-B at CCMH in 2005. She went to school and became a Paramedic in 2007. She is currently one of two full time Paramedics that are assigned to the Wright EMS base which provides care for southern Campbell County. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors, playing cards and putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Stacy, EMT-Intermediate, started with EMS in 2008 and became an EMT-I in 2010. Prior to her Intermediate certification, she was working as an EMT-B with the hospital. Stacy is also a certified CPR instructor. She relaxes by hunting, fishing, camping, 4x4 riding, photography and spending time with her son and husband.
Robert, EMT/RPh. He is a full-time employee at the CCMH inpatient pharmacy.
Diana, EMT-I, started her EMS career in 2000. In addition to her duties with EMS, Diana is also the SafeKids Chapter Coordinator and a child passenger safety instructor/technician. With her free time, Diana enjoys camping, horseshoes, anything to do with her grand children and traveling the world.

Danielle was hired in 2007 with CCMH EMS. She started working in medicine at the young age of 15 and has been actively involved in working with safety trying to succeed—that every employee returns home the same happy and healthy way they checked in for work! She enjoys helping others and loves the outdoors!

Lori
Merle, Flight Medic, has been a medic in Wyoming since 2001, after working in Tulsa and Oklahoma City as a Paramedic. He is currently a Paramedic with Campbell County EMS, Flight medic for Classic Lifeguard, Medic for the Natrona County SRT, and when time permits he works at Rocky Mountain Ambulance. He is a an EMT Course Coordinator, certified AHA Instructor, and an instructor for other EMS programs like PEPP, GEMS, and PHTLS. In what spare time that he does have he enjoys the outdoors and as a member of Search and Rescue, he and his wife have started to train SAR K9’s.

Jeff, EMT-B, has worked in EMS as a volunteer in West Virginia, North Dakota and Pennsylvania from 1990 to 2001. After an 11-year hiatus, Jeff re-certified as an EMT Basic and was hired on at CCMH in September 2011. Jeff is also an instructor for the American Heart Association. Jeff was also a firefighter in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. In his spare time, what little he has, he likes hanging out with his kids, riding ATVs, camping and fishing.
Jeremy, EMT-A, started in EMS in 2009 when he was hired as a driver for CCMH and then took the role of EMT-A when he was certified later that year. For recreation, Jeremy enjoys riding motorcycles.

Chrystal, EMT-A, was certified in 2010 and started with CCMH in January of 2011. In her spare time, she enjoys softball, snow boarding, hiking and camping.

Paramedics

Denny began his 20+ year EMT career in North Dakota, earning his Paramedic certification in Bismarck, ND. In 1998, he moved to Gillette and worked as a NREMT-Paramedic at CCMH, and then moved to Wright in 1999 to become the Southern Campbell County EMS (SCCEMS) Coordinator. Denny enjoys learning, teaching and working with EMT’s from around the state to the local services. Denny enjoys spending time with his family traveling, skiing, hunting, and riding motorcycles.
