Welcome Dr. Julia Caldwell
Heat, humidity and hurricanes—fortunately for Campbell County, those three things helped Dr. Julia Caldwell and her husband David DeKorte choose to leave Texas for Wyoming. Dr. Caldwell joined Northern Plains Anesthesia in December, where her anesthesiology practice includes pain management.

She attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati and completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Her interest in pain management began at an early age, having suffered a broken back as a teenager.

"When someone is in pain, many times you have to tease out what the cause is," said Dr. Caldwell. "Maybe they are working three jobs and have mechanical overload from lifting and carrying. Maybe they have lifted heavy loads improperly for years. I try to find out what else is going on in their life."

Dr. Caldwell believes in treating the whole person, not just their symptoms. She also completed an Interventional Pain Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where she was honored for Excellence in Research as a Fellow.

Dr. Caldwell accepts provider referrals for her pain management practice, and has already performed 55 different pain management procedures at Powder River Surgery Center. As part of their treatment, she may also teach her patients proper ergonomics, or refer them to physical therapy, neurology, psychiatry or a dietitian for weight management.

"I want to help people get back to their lives," said Dr. Caldwell. "We all have pain at some time; I want people to get back to functioning as normally as they can."
