New Maternal Child Manager on Board
Lois Swain joins CCMH Maternal Child Unit

The Maternal Child Unit, more commonly known as the Obstretics and Labor and Delivery departments has a new manager, Lois Swain.

"When I first walked into the hospital it felt like home," said Lois.

But don't let her soft voice and slight Southern drawl fool you-she has a passion for women and children's health. Lois spent 15 years in Labor and Delivery and Level II Neonatal ICU in Louisiana, and another seven years concurrently in Alaska before choosing to come to CCMH.

"I have actually wanted to live in Wyoming since I was in high school," said Lois. "It was the picture of ranching and my love of remote areas. The lack of trees is going to take some getting used to, though."

Lois has teaching in her background as well, and is a fetal monitoring and neonatal resuscitation instructor. She says there are always opportunities to learn, and wants to move the department forward and improve the family-centered environment for maternal child care at CCMH.

"I hope to help make a great department even greater," she said.

Lois and her husband Alton have ten children, three boys and seven girls, ranging in age from 4 to 30, and three grandchildren. The kids who are still in school will be moving to Gillette this summer. Alton is a gunsmith by trade, fitting right in with a Wyoming lifestyle.

Her first staff meeting is scheduled for this week, and she's excited to get acquainted with everyone and get to work.
