CCMH Implements ePharmacy Services

CCMH Implements ePharmacy Serivces

Gillette, WY--The first component of the Campbell County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) eClinical project, ePharmacy, was implemented on Monday, July 25. CCMH received a $1.89 million grant from the Helmsley Charitable Trust to implement the program, which links the hospital to clinical experts at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD over secure data connections 24/7.

With ePharmacy a pharmacist is on duty 24/7, even when after hours when the CCMH pharmacist is not on duty. When a new order for medication is written by a physician during the night it is faxed to Avera and reviewed by the pharmacist. The medication is profiled based on our Pharmacy formulary (the medications we use at CCMH) using a secure data connection to our Pharmacy computer system. The nurse acknowledges the medication and it is given to the patient.

"eClinical doesn’t take the place of CCMH physicians, nurses or pharmacists," says Deb Tonn, Vice President of Patient Care Services, "It will provide an additional level of care and monitoring for our patients, part of our ongoing commitment to continuously improve quality and patient safety. I’m proud of the team effort we’ve brought to bear on this project, involving IS, nursing and pharmacy."
