Personal Sick Leave (PSL)
What is Personal Sick Leave?
It is paid time that an employee can use for an extended illness.
Am I Eligible?
If you are a Full-time or Part-time employee you are eligible to accrue PSL. (PRN employees are not eligible for PSL).
When Is my PSL Available for Use?
Employees are eligible to begin using accrued PSL hours upon hire.
If I Am Sick Can I Use PTO Immediately?
If an employee is hospitalized, undergoes outpatient or ambulatory surgery, is sent home from duty as a result of an on-the-job injury, or has a serious contagious disease (see CCMH policy for contagious disease criteria), the employee shall begin using PSL hours immediately. If you miss work due to a routine illness, the first 3 days (24 hours) will be deducted from your PTO (Paid Time Off) bank before utilizing your PSL (personal sick leave).
Can PSL Be Used for Medical or Dental Appointments?
Yes, a full-time employee may use their own PSL hours for work missed due to personal/family medical or dental appointments, or Spouse or Dependent Children (living with the employee) having a surgical procedure or hospitalization. Up to 16 hours per year (January through December) may be utilized. (See the CCMH policy for complete details.)
What is the Accrual Rate for Personal Sick Leave?
PSL hours for full and part-time employees are accrued based on length of service and number of actual hours worked. The following chart shows how many PSL hours a full-time employee accrues per pay period and per pay year (based on 80 hours worked per pay period).
